At Tactile Education, we believe better futures will be forged by empowered youth. Towards this end, we seek both to inspire students to critically, creatively, and compassionately engage with issues of social injustice and to guide educators in the development and implementation of a discussion-based curriculum that does the same.
We hope to offer alternatives to euro-centric modes of thinking and provide insights into how historical policies and attitudes manifest as present-day social ills like racial policing, religious intolerance, gender discrimination, and economic inequality, both locally and around the globe.
Tactile Education's educational services will give students a place to imagine a future that acknowledges but does not reiterate the past, as well as build their confidence to advocate for greater justice, equity, and inclusion in their own communities and within the global community at large.
We are committed to promoting an understanding of diversity, expressed in many forms including race, ethnicity, gender, ability, sexual orientation, national identity, language, culture, religion, socioeconomic status, age and more, through open conversation, academic knowledge, and experiential learning.
We are committed to empowering students to unlearn biases and to challenge harassment, discrimination and injustice. We encourage our students to approach the world with an open mind and respect for both the familiar and unfamiliar that they will encounter.
We are committed to fostering a sense of inclusion within our programs, where differences are not only tolerated but celebrated, where everyone's voice can be heard and every student feels a sense of belonging.
We are committed to creating a curriculum that draws from diverse sources and perspectives while focusing on the real-life consequences of oppression and understanding of the mechanisms which perpetuate oppression.
